John Tanner Lake Fork Fishing Report

This week here at the great Lake Fork the fishing has been good. We have been doing the best in the mornings and again in the late afternoons. Main lake points have been great places to start using Carolina rigged lizards, baby brush hogs and Texas rigged worms. Most of the fish we have been catching off of these points have been in 15 to 18 ft . of water The best points have been on the windy side of the lake. Every morning for the past week we have had a pretty good breeze so it has helped tremendously. As always graph the area and see if they are there. If you get out real early you can catch some good ones along the grassy points on the south end of the lake using

Wacky worms and light weighted Texas rigged worms. Good colors have been watermelon red, watermelon and pumpkin seed. As the morning progresses look for the deep fish to be hanging out in submerged brush and timber in 18 to 22ft on the drop offs along the points. Again the Carolina rig and the Texas rig fished slowly through the brush will do the job there. Up in the day a lot of the fish around the main lake structure will suspend so go after them with large spoons. You can catch them on the big spoons in the early mornings as well over deep water on the south end of the lake in certain areas. Speaking of that, we filmed another show here on Lake Fork with Honey Hole All Outdoors Television last week and caught some good ones on the spoon. This episode should be on the air soon so check your local listings for times. You can see it early mornings on the weekends on FSN ( Fox Sports Net) or channel 27 in the DFW area so check it out. They do a great job and have an excellent fishing show. We have also filmed with Ark La Tex Sportsman 3 times in the last 6 weeks so look for some great Lake Fork fishing action in the near future on their program as well. Mid day the bite has been slow so to salvage the day fish shaky head worms and small crank baits along the bridges and then later in the afternoon hit the points again. Late evenings move back into the grass and throw the wacky worms and Texas rigs. As we roll into September look for a lot of the fish to start moving into some of the creeks. If the weather cools down a little a lot of the shad will move into the mouths of the creeks and the bass will follow. The mornings and afternoons are the best time to catch them in these areas as the fish feed heavily on the baitfish. Look for schooling activity to pick as always going into September. All we need is a few cooler days and especially some cooler evenings so keep an eye on the weather.

Good Luck if you are headed this way. While you are here at Lake Fork be sure and go by and visit our local Ranger Boat dealer Diamond Sports Marine.
